5 Months

Every month that goes by is going by too quickly! I can't believe how big they are getting and how much their personalities are developing.

Lucas continues to be our laid back guy for the most part. He has mastered rolling and is a wiggly guy. He rolls all the time and we cannot leave him un-attended anywhere that is elevated. He still can entertain himself pretty well and love playing with his toes. He is tolerating the exersaucer more. He now has both his bottom teeth poking through and chews on everything! His favorite toys are the link rings and a stuffed octopus that Grandma and Grandpa Barker got them. He continues to be a talker and will sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and just talk to himself.

Megan is becoming more easy going, but still likes to be entertained and is a people-person. She can still roll, but doesn't roll nearly as much as Lucas. She would prefer to be vertical. She loves standing up with help and sitting in your lap. She also loves her exersaucer. She plays and bounces in that thing for what seems like hours. She also loves jumpers. Grandma and Grandpa Bartman have one and she loves it. We need to get one at home! As much as she like to be on her feet, she may just skip crawling and move right to walking! Her favorite toys are stacking cups (no stacking, just chewing!) and crinkle books. She is also lose a bunch of her hair. She has the typical "rub-spot" on the back of her head, but has started losing the hair on the sides and it is thinning on top. She still has more than Lucas, though!

Both kids have been sick for a couple weeks. They both have snotty noses and coughs. And to top it off Lucas has an ear infection. They both seem to be getting better, but the other day Lucas' voice went hoarse. It is so sad to hear him try to "talk" or cry and nothing comes out! I am sure this is just one of many shared illness we will endure!

The are both much more attentive. They notice when you walk in and out of a room and follow you every movements. They even notice the dogs now too and have gotten several kisses from them! We are now eating solid foods twice daily with cereal and veggies (carrots and sweet potatoes) in the morning and cereal and fruit (apples and pears) in the afternoon. I am making the baby food myself and love knowing that my kids are getting fresh food with no preservatives and all the nutrients.

Next month....6! Holy Cow!

First Tooth!

Lucas woke up this morning with a tooth!! It has been threatening to pop out for several weeks now. It is his bottom, right, central incisior. Here comes the biting!

Sleep Regression

Up until 3 weeks ago, the kids were sleeping great. They would sleep from 8pm to 3 or 4am, they would get their binkies, and go back to sleep. That is over now!!

Lucas woke up one night and was up almost every hour. It has been that way for weeks now. He sleeps from about 8pm to 11 or 12 and then seems to be up every hour.We spoke to the pediatrician about it, and she says we are doing everything right and only had a few thoughts about waking: hunger, itchy skin (possible eczema), or growth spurt. We also though maybe he was cold or cause he had a cold. We have tried everything under the sun and I have even regressed to feeding him in the middle of the night. Nothing seems to work. He only seems to want to sleep in my arms. As sweet and cuddly as he is, it is not a habit I want to start.

I pray he starts to feel better and sleep better. Mommy and daddy are so tired!!

Milestone Day

Today, after and long and stressful day at work, I came home to my beautiful babies who did great things today!

Lucas found his feet and pulled on them both. He also rolled over completely from his back to front. He has been hung up on his shoulder, and figured it out today!

Megan discovered splashing in the tub today! She was in her little seat and kicked and threw her arms and leg about. She had a great time! She has also found her voice. Lucas has been the chatter-box, and now she seems to be answering back. Nate said she was "singing" today. It is so cute!

These are the moments that make coming home that much sweeter!

Rolling more!

Tonight, not to out done by her brother again, Megan rolled from her back to her belly! Mommy is so proud! C'mon Lucas, you can do it!

4 (and a half) month check-up

Megan and Lucas had their four month check today.....albeit a little late because of the holidays. They are doing great and growing well! Here are the stats:

Megan: 14 lbs, 12.5 oz (50th %)
24.5 in (25th %)

Lucas: 14 lbs, 5 oz (25th %)
25 in (25th %)

They are developing well and meeting all their milestones. We have gotten the okay for cereal (even though we have started it already) and she even said we could introduce a couple other foods, but no more than 3 before they are 6 months old.

She agrees that they are starting to teethe and gave all the common recommendations for relief.

Lucas' sleeping issues over the last week (waking up every 2 hours) has no obvious cause. A first thought is that he is going through a growth spurt and being hungry. Another reason could be his skin. He has always had very sensitive skin (like his mommy) and looks like he has a bit of eczema. He could be getting itchy and irritable at night. So, we are trying Cetaphil lotion a few times daily and if that doesn't work, we have a script for a low dose steroid cream. Of course, the teething could be it too.

Finally, they got their shots. They did as well as can be expected, and were extra fussy this afternoon, but that is to be expected.

Other than that, all is well. Next check-up is at 6 months. I can only imagine how big they will be!

Daycare

Today was the first day for the kiddos at daycare. We decided to send them one day a week to not only give Daddy a day off, but to also socialize them and have ourselves established when Nate does get a job. They did good......and so did Daddy! He missed them very much, but enjoyed the time to sleep in and get things done!
