Last week we took our first camping trip with the kids. Well, technically they went last year, but were much easier to take care of in their little cocoon! They did pretty well. They loved swimming in the lake, playing in the grass and just hanging out. They slept pretty good the first few nights, but Lucas started getting really fussy the last few, so we cut out trip short by 2 nights.

So we took Lucas to the ENT a few weeks ago, as he has had 6 ear infections in his wee little 10 months of life. The consensus is to get tubes in both ears. We are scheduled to have this done September 3rd.

Boy what a difference 1 month makes! My babies are growing so fast!Megan and Lucas continue to move more and more each day. Crawling is 100% mastered. They can pull themselves up on just about anything, even things without anything to grab on, like the sliding glass door. They are also moving along the furniture, transferring from sofa to table and experimenting with only holding on one handed.

Lucas cut tooth #4 today and #5 is on it's way. Megan still only has 2, but drool and has a runny nose like a faucet like she will have more any day!Lucas has recently expanded his razzberry skills. Lucas has discovered how to work his lips! He has been blowing "raspberries" for a week now and it is so much fun when there is food in his mouth. He has also figured out how to purse his lips shut when he doesn't want to take a bite. And just yesterday, he started sucking his bottom lip in and smiling, making him look like a Cabbage Patch Kid! Yesterday I had to take Megan to the doctor, cause she just wasn't acting right. The night before, she was really fussy, and for the first time in 2 weeks, she needed a bit of a bottle to go back to sleep. So we have been here almost 7 hours and almost 8 since my water broke. I am not feeling much discomfort and am getting rather frustrated. The pitocin is at 15ml/min and the max is usually 20. They say some women just don't respond. Hopefully I start feeling stuff soon! The wonder now is if it will be close to midnight with them having different birthdays!

So my water broke at about 2:20pm today and was admitted to Labor and Delivery at abot 3pm. I'm here for the long haul. No real contractions yet and still only 1-2 cm dilated. At this point we wait to see how things progress and if they need a nudge, we will start some meds. I guess they still wanted to do things on their own and not be told when to come. Boy are we gonna have our hands full!

My appt today went okay. I had an NST. They had trouble getting the heartbeats at first, but all was well. My blood pressure was up a smidge again, but nothing terribly concerning. My cervix was dilated 1-2 cm and very thin. So, the plan is to induce my labor on Monday, August 24th at 8am....that is unless they decide to show up this weekend on their own!

Baby showers are done. We had the Barker side on May 30th and my side on June 27th. It was so wonderful to see everyone and share our happy time with them. So I was at work yesterday when our secretary called me and told me I was needed in ultrasound to try out their new 4-D ultrasound machine (regular ultrasounds are 2-D). Yesterday we took a trip to the ED. That is the LAST place I ever want to be and the last kind of patient I want to be either! I woke up about 8:30 with a sharp RLQ and flank pain. Took some Tylenol, and laid back down. No relief. I though for sure it was gas and would pass, but no such luck. I started to get worried, as my ovaries are the size of large lemons and have many cysts on them.

Yesterday was my egg retrieval. Even though I was sedated, I still felt a lot of it and am still slightly uncomfortable today. All in all, 32 eggs were retrieved!! 12 eggs were inseminated with ICSI. As of this morning, 11 have successfully fertilized. We will know the quality of these tomorrow. We are scheduled for the embryo transfer tomorrow morning with much dreaded bed rest!

Last week we had our official ART (assisted reproductive technology) consult with the NP in the office. She went over all the paperwork and procedures involved. I am going to start on ovary suppression medication this month, and hopefully be able to start the stimulation medication next month. Timing is tricky because of the holidays, so hopefully we can do our procedure before Christmas.

While explaining our woes to my mom, she out of the blue offered to co-sign a loan for us if that would help. Well, sure enough it did! We got the loan, and again (for like the millionth time), we are ever so grateful to my mom for helping us once again! We only hope we can re-pay her some day and be ever that generous to our own children! Love you, Mom!

You would think that we were buying a house with all the paperwork we have to fill out and sign. The only difference is that these papers are more like a job interview on paper. "What are your best personality qualities?" "What will make you a good parent?" "Why do you think you should adopt?" What kills me is that they don't give these questionnaires to ALL people before they have children!

Our first interview with the Adoption Social Worker (ASW, as I will call her) was on October 7th. Her name is Carol and she is one of the reasons we chose Bethany. She is adopted herself and is a birth-mother who gave up a child 17 years ago. So she is very familiar with the whole process, from all aspects. On October 2nd we submitted our application (and large fee!). We got a call back almost immediately! We had an interview set up for October 7th.
